I’m fundraising for CHEO during this year’s Telethon!
I get to participate in a LIVE event at the CHEO Telethon on June 10, 2018 - "Punching with Purpose" by the awesome people at Phoenix Boxing.
My Father told me he’s going to donate $1,000.00 if I can punch the heavy bag 100 times!
For those of you who don't know me, this event is a BIG deal for me. I've been a huge ROCKY fan and training to be a boxer since I was 13.
I'm 19 now, but about three years ago, I was struck by a car while crossing the street. I suffered a severe traumatic brain injury.
Although I was 16 years old at the time, I was brought to an adult hospital because I was mistaken for a man in his mid-twenties.
After many weeks in a coma, and not much hope, I was going to be sent to a long-term care residence, because I was stuck in a vegetative state.
However, I got lucky! Just before I was about to be shipped away, I was able to give a “thumbs-up”, and they thought, just maybe, I had a chance, and they transferred me to CHEO - the Children's Hosiptal of Eastern Ontario instead!
This is where the miracles really began to happen. I was given the opportunity to re-learn ... EVERYTHING! How to walk, how to speak, how to get dressed, and even how to feed myself.
I’ll be forever grateful to the people who didn’t give up on me - my family never gave up, CHEO never gave up, and I never, ever, EVER gave up!
... CHEO didn't only save my life, they saved my SOUL ...
Here’s the video CHEO made about my adventure while I was in their hospital:
