Chip in for CHEO

Dear family, friends and customers,

Since 2008 our father’s fundraiser known as the Longest Day of Coaching has raised in excess of $570,000 in support of our local children’s hospital, CHEO. As a family who experienced all that CHEO has to offer for the tiniest of its patients it felt necessary and important to have a fundraiser where the funds were used for direct purchase of vital equipment on the ‘wish lists’ of various departments including the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Audiology.

As our family has begun a new chapter and venture with a business where we are all involved - On The Green Family Golf Center - it also felt like the right time for us (Kathryn and Kristina) to take on the fundraiser and give back to a hospital which has given us so much care.

Our early arrival in 2006, being born at 28 weeks, brought us into the world with “some” challenges…to start, we weighed 1 lb 15 oz and 2 lbs 12 oz and between the two of us we have had 11 surgeries! While early on in those first months where every hour seemed to provide new obstacles…the care we received allowed us to survive…and over the next several years, thrive!

We are now both students at South Carleton High School in grade 12! We are working on our G2 now so we can begin another type of ‘driving’ so look out! And we both continue to love ‘our’ sport of wrestling…yes, wrestling. Seems there was a fighting spirit which came natural to us!!!

We take great pride in the difference the Longest Day of Coaching as a fundraising legacy has made in the lives of CHEO’s children and youth where, for some, it can be the toughest time as they navigate a devastating diagnosis or need lifesaving treatment and care. We are products of that lifesaving treatment.

We love CHEO and we love our community and we both hope you’ll continue to support our new chapter and CHIP in for CHEO fundraiser. Over the weekend of September 8-10, we will be having an event at On The Green Family Golf Center with all baskets sales for the three days being donated to CHEO. We also have the following fun things planned:

  • a silent auction on September 9 and 10 with sports related items
  • a bake sale on September 9 between 11 – 3 p.m.
  • visits from the CHEO Bear
